Anticipating the release --- a life-altering update for visually impaired users!
With an estimated 2.2 billion visually impaired people worldwide, the Be My Eyes app has been providing assistance since 2015.
What is the Be My Eyes App?
The Be My Eyes app is a revolutionary solution that connects visually impaired individuals with sighted volunteers from around the world, providing remote assistance with tasks that require visual help.
The app was developed to empower visually impaired individuals by giving them access to a global community of volunteers who can offer assistance with daily tasks such as reading labels or documents, identifying colors, and navigating unfamiliar spaces.
With over 6 million volunteers and more than 300,000 visually impaired users worldwide, the Be My Eyes app is transforming the lives of people with visual impairments, one connection at a time.
Founded by visually impaired Danish craftsman Hans Jørgen Wiberg, the app connects users now with over 6 million volunteers via video calls to help with daily tasks.
Recently, the app began beta testing an AI feature that complements its human volunteers.
Blind beta tester Brian Fischler found the tool "very empowering" and appreciated the privacy it offered compared to calling a loved one or video chatting with a volunteer. He described the technology as "life-altering."
Though the updated Be My Eyes app is not yet ready for release, CEO Mike Buckley hopes to launch it within a few months, ensuring it is safe and effective.
*He emphasized that AI will not replace volunteers but will be used alongside them, maintaining the importance of human connection in the app's mission.
